ABOUT ME

I have had a lifelong interest in the Monasteries of England and Wales. As a lockdown exercise I began to write a series of essays on their stories after dissolution which are many and varied.

I intend to post some of these on this blog. They cover: 

• the transformation of monasteries into homes, parish churches, cathedrals and other buildings

• monasteries seen through the eyes of great antiquarians

• the impact of the romantic movement

• the development of monastic archaeology

• remnants: what were the forces that led to ruination for many sites ?

• finally monasteries reclaimed - some sites have been re-inhabited
